Nintendo: Core Games in Development, But Not Ready for Early 2009
Aug 26, 2008 by Kirby173
In an interview featured in the new October issue of EDGE Magazine, the Big N has made some comments about their hardcore gamers, as well as mentioned that they have developers working on "popular core gaming franchises".

Alright, many of the popular core gaming franchises of Nintendo are making their way to the Wii and DS. Sounds like good news, but, Nintendo then added the following:

So, many hardcore franchises are in development, but don't expect any of them to arrive until at least mid-2009 or late-2009. That means there is no 2008 Kirby Wii release as revealed at the beginning of the year, no new Zelda Wii or Mario Wii until late-2009, among other franchises.

Although it was already revealed that 2008 will only have the release of four more 1st-party games from Nintendo (Mario Super Sluggers, Animal Crossing: City Folk, Wario Land: Shake It!, Wii Music), the new interview revealed that we won't be getting anything like Kirby, Zelda and Mario until late-2009.

What to expect of the new dungeons in Chrono Trigger DS
Aug 26, 2008 by Kagato

You are looking at Singing Mountain, a portion of Chrono Trigger that never made it into the final game. Could Square-Enix be resurrecting this land for the new content coming to Chrono Trigger DS? Your guess is as good as mine. I don’t even need new content to be happy, but I’ll take it! Now, we just have to figure out what Square-Enix is doing with that unused Echoes of Time trademark.

Chrono Trigger DS was promised to contain new content, including new dungeons. Singing Mountain had it's own music and it's own purpose, but since it was never finished, it was edited out. Now that there's a chance that it might finally return, we'll finally learn, after all these years, what purpose this unfinished stage had on the story.

The Conduit - Interview with Designer: Micah Skaritka
Aug 25, 2008 by Kirby173
A recent interview with The Conduit developer Micah Skaritka has revealed a few more details on the game, as well as their current progress. According to the interview, the single-player of the game is already completed, with multiplayer left to be made. Some main highlights of the interview are:

- The Conduit was supposed to be for the "casual" audience. The developers then thought as development went on that the Wii lacks a FPS with amazing graphics, so they moved on towards making a FPS with amazing graphics for the hardcore audience.
- The Nunchuk throws the grenade (I was right! )
- The sensitivity has been fine-tuned to perfection.
- You can re-map any of the buttons to customize the controls.
- No 1:1 Motion Controls.
- There are plans for a moveable UI. You may be able to move your HUD to wherever you like on the screen.
- Multiplayer is just beginning work on. Single Player is being wrapped-up.
- Friend Codes are "still up in the air".
- The developers are still unsure whether the game should be WiiSpeak compatible. When the peripheral was announced, the game was already too far into development. Voice Chat is still a yes-or-no at the moment.
- Graphics are "nothing like you've seen on the Wii". Promises of projected dynamic lighting, projected textures and crazy water effects.

Basically, WiiSpeak is a maybe at this time, friend codes are "still up in the air", development on single player is completed, multiplayer still at works, and the graphics are promised to be "nothing like you've seen on the Wii".

The game still lacks a publisher. Rumors say that Nintendo is in deed the publisher of The Conduit, but no confirmation or deconfirmation on that at the moment.

Expect to see The Conduit in Q1 2009.

Cursed Mountain - First Details on the Game
Aug 23, 2008 by Kirby173
IGN has revealed some new details on the upcoming Survival/Horror game developed by Deep Silver, Cursed Mountain.

Cursed Mountain will, as previously revealed when the game was announced, make players take the role of a man in search for his brother in the Himalayas. New details state that the game will take place in the 1980's, meaning you won't have the advanced, state-of-the-art mountain climbing technology of the 21st century at your side. Your goal is to reach the summit and find your brother, but as you progress up the mountains, you begin to uncover the horror of this cursed environment. There was a Buddhist community living on the mountain, but something had gone wrong, so the entire mountain became cursed.

The game takes the idea of mountain climbing into its gameplay seriously. The higher up you get to the summit, the tougher the game will become due to the thinner air. You can also suffer from altitude sickness in the game, making the protagonist see hallucinations of various things.

Finally, the developers are using real-life Himalayan references to make Cursed Mountain. IGN also states that the Buddhist community of the game buries the dead in such a haunting way, that it could scare players for weeks.

New Cursed Mountain Gameplay Trailer (In-Game Footage) - GC 2008
Aug 21, 2008 by Kirby173
Since the day Cursed Mountain was announced, developers of the Wii-exclusive game have promised gamers one thing: the game will be one of the best looking on the Wii. With only two images that looked more like renders than actual screenshots, there wasn't proof of what the new survival/horror game would look like. Until now.

Straight from the Games Convention 2008 comes a gameplay trailer that claims to be in-game footage of Cursed Mountain. The results? It definitely looks great, and is probably one of the best games in terms of graphics for the Wii. While a few areas still need work, like the character models for example, keep in mind that the game is scheduled for a release in 2009, so there is plenty of time for the developers to polish up the game.

Enjoy the video.

Nintendo Gets Sued for the Wii!?
Aug 20, 2008 by Kirby173
Today, Hillcrest Laboratories sued Nintendo claiming company is using their motion-control inventions in the Wii. Hillcrest is wanting to block imports of the Wii and Wii Remotes, according to a complaint filed today with the U.S. International Trade Commission in Washington. Hillcrest also filed a civil suit in federal court in Greenbelt, Maryland.

A decision on the ITC Case will go first and a decision will take 15 months to investiagte.

So lets see...Anascape sues Nintendo for the analog sticks of the Classic Controller, GameCube Controller and Wavebird. John R. Martin sues Nintendo for the touchscreen of the DS. Now, Hillcrest Laboratories sues Nintendo for the Wii. The only Nintendo products that aren't sued yet are the Nunchuk, Wii Zapper, Wii Wheel and Wii Balance Board, as well as the video games for the Wii and DS. Great.

Sega Announces The House of the Dead: Overkill for Wii
Aug 19, 2008 by Kirby173
Today, Sega unveiled a new title arriving to Nintendo's Wii next year, dubbed The House of the Dead: Overkill. Sega described the sequel as "an all-new pulp-horror reinvention of the classic Sega light-gun shooter franchise", and will be developed by Headstrong Games. "They'll come for brains, you'll give them bullets," said Sega.

This is the hardcore Wii title you've been waiting for.
The House of the Dead will be arriving for the Wii early 2009. Does anyone think Sega can actually deliver something good this time around? Or will Sega fail to meet the expectations of gamers once again?

Watch DVDs on Wii with Homebrew Channel
Aug 14, 2008 by Kirby173
Nintendo has announced back in 2007 that there will be a DVD-compatible Wii releasing soon. It's now mid-2008, and no signs of any DVD Wii in sight. So, the Homebrew community has stepped up, and...surprise! The Wii can now read DVD's with a simple download of a small file, a homebrew player, and then tranferring them with an SD Card and installing them with the Homebrew Channel.

A full guide to installing the patch can be found on Nintendo Wii Fanboy, so if you're interested in installing this, just follow the steps in there. Afterwards, pop in a DVD of your choice, and...voila! One DVD Playing Wii that has good video quality. The only problem is that the FPS will drop slightly in more action-packed scenes so the audio and video is synchronized with each other. But it's a first successful attempt at bringing DVD playback to the Wii, and it will continue to develop as time goes on. It's a nice step forward for Homebrew indeed, with both decent quality and video playback with little FPS drops, and they'll probably fix the FPS problems with the next release.

IMPORTANT: I will not recommend anybody to install this DVD playing patch to the Wii. Try this at your own risk of your own Wii, do not complain if your Wii gets bricked and start shouting at me, Nintendo or anybody else because you failed to install it. It's not our fault that you failed to install the program properly.

Here is a Video of a DVD playing on a Hacked Wii:
